Centre of Competence for Oral Medicine and Life Science
The Witten Centre of Dental and Life Science Research (ZBZ) is a strongly networked specialist location for businesses and projects from the field of bioscience or medical research and development. Interdisciplinary exchange and synergies between different areas of expertise (medicine, nursing sciences, dentistry, materials sciences, microbiology, orthodontics, industrial design amongst others) are supported at the ZBZ.
The ZBZ provides optimum conditions for the smooth progress of innovation and development processes. The particular medical competences of the site are networked with the biomedical and technical strengths of the Ruhr Metropolis area in in one of the most active health economics regions in Europe.
The innovation site in the direct proximity of the FEZ Research and Development Centre Witten on the Campus of the Witten/Herdecke University promotes synergies and the exchange of ideas.
Research, Development and Applications all under one roof
The services on offer from ZBZ Witten are directed towards businesses and facilities which research, develop or manufacture with a view to applications, or who offer innovative services in the bioscience or dental medicine value creation chain. Amongst other things these include commercial partners for clinical studies, IT service providers, further education funding providers or developers of innovative systems of study. With its flexible, useful infrastructure the ZBZ provides the optimum space for these.
Optimum Environment for Setting up a Businesses
The ZBZ presents an infrastructure fulfilling the needs for start-up business, businesses and scientific institutions, provides laboratory, experimental, office and multi-function areas as well as treatment rooms including the equipment and facilities management necessary.
Innovative ideas will find an optimum environment here in which to successfully reach people and the marketplace. From checking business ideas through start-up consultations with experienced managers right through to individual events on specific topics, a regular exchange takes place for young businesses in the ZBZ. Access to industry specific networks is actively supported.
Since the opening of the Competence Centre in 2008 more and more exciting business ideas have found their way into the ZBZ and started their journey to market from here:
- The company Ossfitec GmbH (winner of Witten Start-Up Prize for Medical Technology) works on the market maturity of bio-resorbable implants for the neck and lumbar spine.
- Aklebia develops e health solutions for maintaining the quality of life of older people.
- In the ORMED Institute toothbrushes from renowned manufacturers are tested for their effectiveness.
- In the dental hospital sugar-free, tooth-friendly sweets are tested in a scientific test stand: In this way we can ensure they do not cause caries or any other harm to teeth caused by acids.
- The start-up company ELISCHA Business Development has a system for optimising dental hygiene in elderly patients and those in need of care – including training of care staff.
Corresponding service companies such as marketing agencies or a specialised female lawyer are also included amongst them.
