In the middle of the Ruhr Metropolis the City of Witten is an attractive city with a high quality and living and accommodation for its some 100,000 inhabitants. Two thirds of the city’s area is comprised of natural green areas or water. The many opportunities for leisure and tourism are well known and loved far beyond Witten’s borders.

Economic Development

The area of health economics, training as well as science and research are included amongst the strongest economic growth sectors. An impulse for this is the private University Witten/Herdecke with its points of emphasis for study in medicine, dentistry, oral hygiene and orthodontics, nursing sciences, economics, biosciences as well as the interdisciplinary additional training in „study fundamentals“.

Through the technology transfer in the neighbouring Research and Development Centre (FEZ) and the Witten Centre of Dental and Life Science Research (ZBZ) the university has developed itself into an important impulse for the economy in Witten.

Optimum Transport Connections

The City of Witten as a location for scientific, technological and innovative services is ideally connected via the federal motorways nos. 43, 44 and 45 to the regional and national trunk road network. And so for example the cities of Bochum, Dortmund, Essen, Hagen and Wuppertal as well as Dusseldorf and Cologne can be reached in between 10 to 45 minutes by car, the airport in Dortmund in ca. 30 minutes and the international airport in Dusseldorf in ca. 45 minutes by car. Via the train station in Witten the Intercity Express stations in Bochum, Essen, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Hagen and Wuppertal can be reached directly via high-speed train and regional train connections.
